Run for the Wall
Colfax County New Mexico
The annual Run for the Wall event started several years ago as a way to remember and honor those who were killed during the Vietnam War. Hundreds of motocyclists leave Ontario, California in May for a ten-day journey to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
Every year in an incredible number of motocyclists cross the ruts of the Santa Fe Trail on their drive through Cimarron, New Mexico on their way to Raton, New Mexico. In Raton they are joined by many local residents at the New Mexico Visitor's Center. From there, the journey continues on I-25 with the riders eventually arriving at the national Vietnam memorial.
The photo at left shows the the line of motocycles several miles outside of Cimarron which reaches back to the starting point in Cimarron. The riders cross the Santa Fe Trail ruts near here. The location below is from where the photo was taken just west of the Whittington NRA Center outside of Raton, New Mexico.
